Voltage transformers, or potential transformers (PT’s), are used for the measurement of electrical voltages. When the voltage is too high to be directly applied to a measuring instrument or device, a voltage transformer or PT will produce a proportionally reduced voltage signal which can be directly applied to the measurement device.
